When it comes to Zombologists, Dr. Steve Schlozman MD wrote the book on the Zombie Brain and what makes a The Zombie Apocalypse not only plausible but likely!
This guy knows his Zombies inside and out! His book focuses The scientific plausibility of how the prions that caused Mad Cow Disease back in the 90′s could very easily be combined with Influenza to create an airbourne nasty little creature that would turn one third of the world’s population into Flesh Hungry Zombies! Dr. Schlozman and his book have been featured on NPR, CNN, Fox News, and of course Zombie Zone News, and now he wants to hear from YOU!
Now for the BIG news: Dr. Schlozman has agreed to be ZZN’s OFFICIAL ZOMBOLOGIST! What does this mean? It means that when we get reports of possible Zombie Outbreaks, Zombie Diseases, or general questions of the Scientific nature, Dr. Schlozman will be our Go-to guy!
This where YOU come in! Have you ever had a question of the scientific nature about Zombies? Here is your chance!
Ask your questions in the comments section below and The Harvard Doc himself will choose a few to answer that will be featured in a future article!
Check out this SICK video with Dr. Schlozman discussing his theories!

From Tonya Lopez Via Facebook:
“what can I spray or put on myself that would make me less appealing to a flesh eater?”
they have shit you can get when you go hunting that will take the human scent away, animals smell you, so can they. go grab a bottle at your local walmart or sportgoods store…
Some more Questions Via Email from A.A.
1) Aside from washing hands and eating healthy, what can the average citizen do (health wise) to prolong the transformation or avoid infection all together?
2) Is it possible to be genetically predisposed to have a strong immunity to the Z-bug?
3) What effect does a Taser have on a Zombie. If it could slow them down, would it be possible to use a S.W.A.T. team “Shock Wave” riot control unit to slow an advancing hoard?
Thanks Dr. S!
From a fan via email:
Dr steve,
I have been a zombie fanatic, before zombies where even mainstream (say15yrs). My theory on how a true zombie apocalypse could be possible is by the following.
Insects have been know to live past there normal life expectancy. From what i have read certain insects have been known to move and act, while considered dead, by hormones released by the queen. If a quick, potent virus where to be combined with an enhanced version of these hormones would it therefore be possible for human zombies? Well thats my theory would love to hear your thoughts. I understand that the money and science for this would be very complicated, but i still ponder.

A question for Dr. Schlozman – Do you think the zombie brain would crave sex?
The lymbic system is primarily to keep you moving and having sex and my understanding is it’s the only functioning part of the zombie brain.
Thanks, Alex
Been wondering about this too. but if the zombies are caused and controlled by a kind of parasite, i think it would be unlikely as the reproductive urge is in the parasite. the human body only serves as an unconscious host to control. *shrug*
Great Questions so far! I talked to Dr. Steve today, and he is excited too!
Wow! I am stoked.
I’m also relieved that someone who knows so much about the human/zombie brain is so confident that science can conquer zombism. Also, that vid was badass.
Mad Cow + Flu = Zombies seems pretty reasonable to me.
It would explain the meat craving too. When I have the flu, I crave lemon sorbet–lets hope the undead don’t go there.
Questions:
–Are the pics in the book in color?
–Do zombies require oxygen, and if so, do they know this?
–Does the zombie virus impact children differently than adults due to differences in brain development?
Hey Dr. S.,
I just started reading your book, and you might have already answered my question in there. It’s fairly simple, so forgive me if it’s a silly question!
In various zombie books and movies, there is a big difference on HOW someone can become contaminated with the zombie virus. In some, the zombie virus can ONLY be spread through a bite. The characters get splattered with gore and scratched and injured, but as long as they aren’t bitten by a zombie, they’re fine. In other stories, any fluid contamination from a zombie leads to the spread of the virus. Characters can be infected if they get zombie blood splattered in their eyes, nose, mouth, or in an open wound, or they can even be infected by getting scratched with a zombie’s fingernails.
My question is this: Which is the more likely scenario? Nothing but a bite can infect, or any contact with zombie bodily fluids can infect?
Thanks Dr. S!
Im really looking forward to this book.
My theory on the zombies brain is relatively simple. Cerebral anoxia, or in simple terms a lack of oxygen to the brain after you die. We all know that Oxygen Deprivation can lead to severe brain damage. Is it possible that a lack of oxygen to the brain after the subject passes might be the cause of the zombie diminished capabilities when it revives ? Take the modern “Dawn of the Dead ’04″ these subjects seem to revive almost immediately with absolutely no impact to the motor skills.
