Patton Oswalt is an outstanding stand up comedian whose observational dark humor can help you realize how messed up real life situations are with a laugh. He’s also well known for his role on the television show ” The King of Queens” and for lending his voice to a delightful animated rat the Pixar film “Ratatouille”. Now he will also be known as a published writer after the release of his first book “Zombie Spaceship Wasteland: A Book By Patton Oswalt”.
His first book is an autobiographical anthology of essays that ranges from his experiences working with a zombielike co-worker in a movie theatre to the odd ball antics of his relatives. He even has little notes that go along with each chapter describing what he’s doing to procrastinate while he’s writing the book. After all, who doesn’t have multiple windows open while they work on the computer. I know I have tabs open for Facebook, ComicsPriceGuide, Youtube and Orbitz dot com right now. Bouncing between different distractions helps me write (at least that’s what I tell myself).

The title of his book intrigued me and I had to know more. So, I got in touch with Patton Oswalt and had the pleasure of asking him a few questions. So, without further ado, here is my interview of Patton Oswalt on his new book:
ZombiesCantLove (ZCL) – “Are zombies, spaceships and wastelands alike in some way, what’s the relationship between them?”
Patton Oswalt (P.O.) – “Well, I lay it out in the book — spaceships leave, zombies wipe out humanity but leave infrastructure standing, and wastelands want a clean slate. It all relates to creativity, and what sort of path you’ll go down.”
ZCL – “At the apple store you read a chapter from your book where you had to go to a house and get free stuff. I felt your cynicism, sarcasm and comedic timing was very well put and beautifully honest. What chapter of your book do you feel best describes an encounter with someone you would consider a “zombie”?”
P.O. – “Oh, definitely “Ticket Booth” – the assistant theater manager, Roddy, who lived at the 3-plex movie theater I worked at, was the closest thing I’ve ever encountered to a living zombie.”
ZCL – “What do you think of zombies, like the “undead-roam-the-earth-eating-brains” kind and their sudden infectious popularity as of late in all forms of media?”
P.O. – ” I don’t have any thoughts on zombies per-se. They’re just a vehicle for the more talented filmmakers, writers, and other artists to say something about human relations and society as a whole. They always have been, as far back as I’ve ever read or viewed them.”
ZCL – ” What would be your favorite city or place to see attacked by flesh eating zombies? and why?”
P.O. – ” Pretty much any city in Florida. Just to see if anyone even paid attention to them.”
ZCL -” Finally, Do you have a plan for when the zombies show up? I know a plan or two has crossed my mind more than a few times…”
P.O. – ”No plan. I’ll improvise.”
I would like to thank Patton Oswalt for taking the time to do this interview with me and I highly recommend his latest book to anyone who needs a good laugh and wants to read a book by a wonderfully descriptive writer.
Zombies Can’t Love signing off.
