Long Beach Zombie Walk Brings a Horde of Nearly 5,000 Zombies

The Long Beach Zombie Walk was held on October 29, 2011 and ZZN reader “Deadhead” reports that it was nothing short of awe-inspiring!

Zombie Walk 2011, Long beach California

“You talk the talk but do you walk the walk? I’m talking about the Zombie Walk in Long Beach California. Saturday was all about the Comic and Horror con and a great time was had by all but the night belonged to Zombies. Thousands converged on Downtown Long Beach California to make their zombie fantasy a reality. From the run of the mill to the absolute exotic, zombies of all shapes and sizes strolled down the busy streets of downtown exhibiting to the locals what their fair city would look and feel like had a zombie apocolypse actually happened.

This years event is also an attempt at the largest zombie walk on record. The current record holder is Seattle with 4,700 full fledged zombies. I’m not sure if the record was indeed broken but I would have to say that at least 5,000 zombies were at last nights walk. It was quite surreal actually. I saw zombies on Harleys, zombies arriving in hoards by bus and even zombies tipping their cab drivers. There was a zombie Gene Simmons as well as a zombie Richard Simmons. There were pregnant zombies, baby zombies even a Mr. T zombie.

One very special shout out to those who stayed in character throughout the walk. They brought such a sense of realism to the event especially when the walk ended in front of the convention center and a dance party ensued. Those in character made their way through the party goers and gave the dance floor an eerie feel. Beats were provided by DJ Memesy. Suffice it to say that everybody had a great time. There was plenty of security on hand and the event was actually well planned and played out. Long live the undead!”
