I could watch Evil Dead every week and never get sick of it. Packed full of suspense, gore, and comedy, there is no doubt the film is a classic.
Five friends, including Ash, played of course by Bruce Campbell, go up to a cabin in the woods where they find unspeakable evil lurking in the forest. They find the Necronomicon, an evil tomb of demonic rites, and the taped translation of the text. Once the tape is played, the evil is released. One by one, the teens become deadly evil dead Zombies. With only Ash remaining, it is up to him to survive the night and battle the evil dead.
One of the great things about this movie is the story of how it was made. In 1979, a group of friend, including director Sam Raimi, headed out to a lonely cabin in Tennessee to make the movie. What resulted was one of the best horror and Zombie movies ever. A must see.

This movie is good. it’s alright though. I don’t mind owning it. I don’t have it. I prefer this one than the other sequels. This one was horror, the other ones were comedic horror. Not hating.
I hear you. It's difficult for the reasons you have said. I often rely on the fact that generally the people are dead first. Your analysis is accurate. Here on ZZN, we go with the will of the people, and most, I believe, feel it's a Zombie movie. There are factions of Zombie followers who would take issue with many, many, popular Zombie flicks being Zombie flicks. There is room at ZZN for all that opinion. My personal pet peeve? Return of the living dead: clearly Zombie, but, dressing up and talking on the radio? I think if they meet 80% of so of my personal criteria for Zombies, I'll accept it as a Zombie movie. Every movie has flaws.
While I truly have loved this movie for almost 20 years, I cannot abide it's being called a zombie movie. It isn't, it's a movie about demons and possession and while those posessed teens look like zombies, they just aren't. it's like calling "The Exorcist" a zombie movie.
