Dead Before Dawn - Ellen Dubin - banner

(Written by Zombie Zone News reporter Daniel Potts) All right zombie fans, get ready for the North American release of a new zombie movie that shows a slightly lighter side of our beloved genre. Dead Before Dawn 3D is not your run-of-the-mill zombie flick - it's a mix of the supernatural, an 80’s teen movie and a new world Apocalypse. In Dead Before Dawn, Ellen Dubin - a strikingly leggy 5’10&1/2” native of Toronto - plays Beverly Galloway. Her character is the mother of Casper (Devon Bostick - Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and Christopher Lloyd, of Back to the … [Read more...]

Picking Brains with Wednesday Lee Friday: Tom Berdinski

Is it possible to love low-budget horror TOO much? Maybe. In the case of Michigan director Tom Berdinski though, his passion is our gain. The Italian Zombie Movie pts 1 and 2 is a truly staggering achievement. Sharp and funny, like Troma films meets Backyard Wrestling. It looks cheap because it was made with a budget of zero dollars and zero cents. When you watch, it's not difficult to figure out where all that money went. Ha! Copies of The Italian Zombie Movie are getting scarce. If you are lucky enough find see an available one, by all means, snag it! Tom … [Read more...]

Midnight Monster Movies. Is there anything better in the world than a passionate horror host with a paltry budget bringing the horror love to the people? Yeah, there probably is—but you gotta admit that monster movie hosts are Real Horrorshow. One such host is Columbus Ohio's own Doctor Bob Tesla. His Midnight Monster Movies feature a dizzying array of sound, spectacle, audience interaction, and general horrific whimsy. Luckily for us, he's also a witty guy, and was kind enough to answer a few of our most pressing inquiries. WLF/ZZN: Hey Doctor Bob, thanks … [Read more...]

Picking Brains with Wednesday Lee Friday: Nikolai Pigarev

NikolaiFI

If you're not watching a lot of foreign horror, you're really missing out. There's the French and their love of literal bloodbaths, the exquisite torture found in so many Asian horror classics, and good ol' zombie chomping action a'la the Spanish REC, and Denmark's Opstandelsen. The United States have, by no means, cornered the horror market. With that in mind, I was stoked to check out the new trailer for the new Russian film, Meteletsa (Translation: Winter of the Dead). The film's director, Nikolai Pigarev, was kind enough to sit down and answer a few of my … [Read more...]

World War Z a Trilogy?

World_War_Z___Movie_Thumb

World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks was arguably one of the most epic and influential Zombie books of the 21st Century! Will the movie adaptation of the book live up to its inspiration? We find out on December 21, 2012! The release date is a brilliant, albeit predictable piece of marketing in its self as it is the date of the end of the world or some believe. If the world does begin to come to an end at the conclusion of this year, the last thing people will be doing is going to see a movie so perhaps its not the best idea after all. Die … [Read more...]

MVaughanFI

I'm delighted to be back at ZZN with a new interview. For those of you who don't know, I took a short sabbatical to put the finishing touches on my new book before I handed it off to the publisher and editor. I'm delighted to be able to share this interview with up and coming screenwriter, Maurice Vaughan. He has a killer zombie screenplay in the works, and some lofty ideas about how he plans to elevate the genre. WLF/ZZN: Hey Maurice, thanks for taking the time to answer our Q's. Let's start with what we call The Grandma Question. Why do you have to write … [Read more...]

Picking Brains with Wednesday Lee Friday: Jeremy Gardner

J Gardner's debut picture, The Battery looks to be one of those amazing zombie films that does a whole lot with a few dollars and some really dedicated performers. After the interview, you'll find a short clip that I predict will make you as stoked as I am to see this flick. Mr Gardner has a lot of erudite things to say about filmmaking, Romero, and day-jobs. WLF/ZZN: Hey Jeremy! I so appreciate you taking the time to answer Q's for Zombie Zone News. Your movie The Battery was made for around $6,000. With such a small budget to work with, why choose … [Read more...]

Lionsgate to Produce ‘Dead Island’ Movie

DeadIslandMovieThumb

Back in February, the teaser for Dead Island rocked the world with over a million views in 24 hours. It gave new meaning to the term "Viral Video" (zomb-pun absolutely intended). The three minute trailer seemed an obvious choice for a film adaptation! After a hardcore legal death match, one film studio came out on top as the rights owner to the Dead Island Movie: Lionsgate Films. “This is exactly the type of property we’re looking to adapt at Lionsgate: it’s sophisticated, edgy, and a true elevation of a genre that we know and love. It also has built … [Read more...]
