Rudy Eugene, the man who has become known as “The Miami Zombie” may have been high on a street drug by the name of “Bath Salts” when he attacked his unidentified victim.
Though experts say that the effects of Bath Salts are similar to those of cocaine or methamphetamine highs but possibly much more dangerous, could they be enough to give someone “Zombie-like” symptoms?
Possibly. That depends on how you define a Zombie. When dealing with “The Living Dead”, there are three different distinct types of Zombies:
The first is the classic Voodoo Zombie. Voodoo Zombies are created for the soul purpose of serving their masters mindlessly as the highest form of Voodoo punishment. Though many Haitians believe the use of Voodoo powers to create the Zombie, it has been discovered that the actual method is far more scientific. The creation of the Haitian Voodoo Zombie is done by a Voodoo practitioner known as a Mamba (Female) or Bokor (Male) high priest/ess through the use of a highly poisonous substance found in Blow Fish known as Tetrodotoxin. Too little will cause the ingester to become violently ill. Too much will kill you. The precise amount will put you in a catatonic state and cause all of your vital signs to drop so low that, without the use of modern medical machines, it is possible to mistake a person for dead. After awaking, the “Zombie” has little to no memory or free will and is highly controlable. Such was the case of a man by the name of Clairvius Narcisse. Because this type of Zombie is actually human and under the control of another human, they are not known to engage in cannibalistic activities. This type of Zombie is not only plausible, its documented. Bath Salts would not create this type of Zombie.
The second type of Zombie the Undead. The Undead is someone brought back from the dead through unknown means. This is the typical Hollywood Zombie that crawls out of the grave and anyone he bites turns to a Zombie. This type is extremely unlikely and has been created for the amusement (and horror) of the masses.
The last type of Zombie is the Infected. The Infected have become popular and are considered the most plausible of all due to franchises like 28 Days Later and Resident Evil. The Infected are people who have fallen victim to a parasite, virus, prion, drug or other plague that causes them to lose all humanity and devour other humans often thus infecting them. Infected Zombies do not ALWAYS cause others to become Zombies through bite if the “Infection” is not caused by something infectious.
It is possible that drugs (like Bath Salts, PCP, and LSD)could cause someone to act like an Infected Zombie.
WebMD discribes the dangers of Bath Salts in the following way:
“”Ivory Wave,” “Purple Wave,” Vanilla Sky,” and “Bliss” [Also "Cloud 9]– all are among the many street names of a so-called designer drug known as “bath salts,” which has sparked thousands of calls to poison centers across the U.S. over the last year.Citing an “imminent threat to public safety,” the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) made illegal the possession and sale of three of the chemicals commonly used to make bath salts — the synthetic stimulants mephedrone, MDPV, and methylone. The ban, issued in October 2011, is effective for at least a year. During that time, the agency will decide whether a permanent ban is warranted.”
Experts on Bath Salts explain that the dangers come from the fact that there is no real test to show if someone has been using it, thus it is hard for users to get outside help unless they want it.
Users often experience Agitation, paranoia, hallucinations, chest pain, suicidality. Also high blood pressure and increased pulse, feeling overheated and having violent outbursts.
Dr. Paul Adams an emergency room doctor at Jackson Memorial Hospital said The physical trauma of Bath Salts follows a pattern extremely high body temperatures, strong aggressive, attacks using the mouth and jaws. “Extremely strong, I took care of a 150-pound individual who you would have thought he was 250 pounds,” Adams said. “It took six security officers to restrain the individual.”
The strength and violence of the users can pose a serious threat.
“It’s dangerous for the police,” said Adams. “It’s dangerous for the firefighters. It’s dangerous for the hospital workers taking care of them because they come in, they have to be restrained both chemically and physically and you’re asking for someone to get hurt.”
The Victim of "The Miami Zombie Attack" has been identified as 65 year-old Ronald Poppo. It is unclear how he and his attacker, Rudy Eugene, were involved or the events leading to the attack.

If Bath Salts can cause a person to become delusional, psychotic, and violent it is possible that this drug could create a more modern Zombie.
Many have speculated that this is the start of the Zombie Apocalypse. We at ZZN choose to always believe in the “Better Safe Than Zombie” philosophy. It may be possible that the “Zombie Apocalypse” is here, but in a way we never expected. Instead of dealing with mindless, soulless ghouls, we may be dealing with people who are so drugged out of their mind that all they know is hunger and violence.

The sad part is, the internet is controlled by the government, ultimately and there is never really going to be a way to find out if it is actually happening. The ONLY reason that this story of the man in Miami is going so far is because they want us to believe what THEY want us to believe. Anyway, for all the zombie theorists out there, wrap your brain around this; What if zombies do exist? How on earth would they survive with our army? Do you think that our government would allow them to run out of control in hopes of destroying the people’s of the United States integrity and eventually gain total control of OUR country, the people in it and then run a dictatorship? Or do you think that zombies are just a hoax. I, for one, am a firm believer that ALL fiction MUST come from fact somewhere.
So True. and to follow on your questions… If a Zombie apocalypse came to light, the Government or the power that controls society around us actually has the power to back down their armies and let the infection kill off most of the world’s population just because of a hidden agenda of “Depopulation of the Human Race.” sucks but true, the rich and controlling have hands in dirty power sources that can have devastating effects.
If only for discussion — which zombies are the ones which do not infect with bites? Trying to think but it’s not coming to me.

This is interesting, they say he was high on bath salt, but they also said ” fact that there is no real test to show if someone has been using it”So So how do they know he was high on it?
Sounds like a cover up to me. Because if it something that could put the world on scare, then there not going to release the real details.
In a week or 2 this story will disappear!
It’s pretty unlikely that the Georgia case was a zombie… Unless zombies have taken to threatening people with knives, that is, in which case I think we’re all screwed anyway.
But couldn’t bath salts just be a cover-up?
I totally agree, they seem to describe the symptons for bath salts perfectly to fit and match with the symptons of this situation, referring to the Miami Zombie incident. But then articles says, “Experts on Bath Salts explain that the dangers come from the fact that there is no real test to show if someone has been using it, thus it is hard for users to get outside help unless they want it.” So to my perception, it criticizes it’s own hypothesis. And this makes sense, because everyone knows, that if this IS the Apocolypse that we’ve all been waiting for…Then the government would clearly cover this up so the whole country doesn’t begin to riot and panic.
So is the zombie apocalypse here or not I cant understand this case. To many changes. Weird stuff though in the world happening like the cousin biting his cousins nose off or the man from lowes biting peoples arms and causing problems. I don’t think every case like the lowes or san deagio one is drug related. I could be wrong and if I am I am who knows. All I would like to have is a doctor in Miami who can get his story straight if it isn’t. I am tired of hearing different sides to this story pick one zombies or drugs.
I in a way think we are in a zombie apocalypse maybe not this case but other cases that have come up yes like the case of the guy from lowes in Georgia biting other people and causing problems. So yea I do believe we are in a zombie apocalypse of some kind and until the doctors in the Miami hospital cant get something right and if we can figure out the other cases then yes we are in for a zombie apocalypse.
